The Clap
Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) is reportedly in talks to acquire cybersecurity firm Mandiant (NASDAQ: MNDT), whose shares closed up 16% following the news.
More on Mandiant
Mandiant has a market cap of over $4.5 billion, & focuses on cyber-incident response & cybersecurity testing. We know about a couple of companies & one Ukrainian government who could’ve used Mandiant’s services recently.
What’s in it for Google?
While Google’s cloud computing business generates more than $19 billion in revenue annually, it’s losing billions of dollars every year, too. Acquiring Mandiant would help the tech giant power up its cloud computing business.
What’s the catch?
No catch, but there’s competition. Microsoft also reportedly showed interest in Mandiant about a month ago, sending the latter’s shares soaring 18%.
