The Clap
India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry has reached the final stages in talks with Egypt to begin exporting Indian wheat to it.
The deets
India’s government requested its port authorities to make way for more wheat containers.
Egypt is the world’s biggest wheat importer, & it’s been facing pressure ever since Russia, Egypt’s biggest wheat exporter, decided to invade Ukraine.
India is considering exporting wheat to other countries suffering from the same issue, according to Bloomberg. These countries include China, Turkey, Bosnia, Nigeria, Sudan, and Iran.
Why this matters
Egypt has been advised to look for other countries to import wheat from, as the Russia-Ukraine crisis is expected to put an EGP 15 billion dent in our wheat budget this year.
