The Clap
Uber (NYSE: UBER) announced plans to add planes, trains, car rentals, & even hotels to its U.K. app this year as part of a push toward becoming a one-stop-shop for travel.
The deets
Uber doesn’t plan on providing these services themselves, but rather integrating with providers of these services through software. Uber would then take a commission fee from the several partnerships it said it has lined up.
Why this matters
The move is a pilot to assess how well it goes before expanding further, but the U.K. is a huge market for Uber to hold its pilot program in. Uber expects this move to raise app usage, & hopes that it boosts its rides business as consumers use its ride service between their transit stations.
