The Clap
Amazon announced an additional inflation & delivery fee to its sellers as the company grapples with soaring inflation.
How big is the fee?
Starting April 28, 2022, the fee will hover around 5% & is “subject to change”. It is expected to be temporary because although high inflation is expected to be around for a while, it should go away eventually.
We’ve seen a similar move recently
Uber & Lyft also recently announced additional fees for riders, as gas prices surged & took a toll on driver expenses, leading to shortages in driver supply. However, drivers still didn’t view the fees as nearly enough to cover trips, especially long distances.
Why this matters
The additional fees will apply to the 89% of Amazon’s some 2 million sellers that already pay fees for having their orders “fulfilled by Amazon.”
