The Clap
Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: EA) & FIFA will end their almost 30-year-long partnership.
The deets
The two parties failed to reach an agreement to extend their partnership. Here are the key differences:
- FIFA was unwilling to hand all of its gaming & eFootball rights to just one publisher
- FIFA sought more revenue from EA, almost double the annual $150 million it receives now
- EA wanted to expand the FIFA brand into new areas such as NFTs
So no more FIFA?
EA will end its FIFA franchise with next year’s FIFA 23. After that, the video game publisher will launch “EA Sports FC”, which will retain licensing from other major global football bodies.
EA’s annual report does not give exact figures for each video game.
