The Clap
McDonald’s (NYSE: MCD) will sell its 30+ year-old business in Russia three months after the Russia-Ukraine broke out.
Weren’t they only pausing operations?
The decision to completely exit comes two months after the fast-food giant had announced the pausing of its Russia operations. McDonald’s said that the “continued ownership of the business in Russia is no longer tenable, nor is it consistent with McDonald’s values.”
Why this matters
Numerous Western companies have paused operations but have not made final decisions. With McDonald’s being a leader in consumer branding, other brands could use McDonald’s move to guide their decision-making.
