The Clap
Apple has announced their new generation of Apple CarPlay.
The Deets
With this new software, Apple has opened up the possibility to enter into a multibillion segment of the auto industry: Selling additional services and features to car owners.
The new generation of CarPlay takes over the user interface on all interior screens, replacing gas gauges and speed dials with a digital version powered by the driver’s iPhone.
According to Apple engineering manager Emily Schubert, 79% of U.S. buyers would only buy a car if it supported CarPlay.
Why this segment of the industry?
The car software market is expected to grow 9% per year through 2030. Car software could account for $50 billion in sales by 2030.
Apple wants to dominate this growing industry. This new generation of CarPlay could become a revenue engine, as CarPlay is slowly becoming a necessity in cars.
