All you need to know about the EGX market summary from Thndr. We hear about market indices all the time. Here’s everything you need to know to understand the EGX indices.
What is a market index? Market indices help measure stock prices on a daily basis. There are several different indices, such as indices where all stocks possess an equal weight.
There are other indices where the weights of shares are determined according to the company’s market value. The weight of the stock is determined by comparing it with the rest of the stocks listed on the index.
EGX30 The EGX30 is the Egyptian Stock Exchange’s main index (also called the Latin Index). The EGX30 includes the top 30 companies in terms of liquidity and activity listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange, and the EGX authority can adjust the index by adding and removing companies.

The performance of the index is measured in different time periods, such as month to date. This measures the performance of the index from the first day of the month until the current date. For example, if we say that the index has achieved 8% month to date, and the current date is September 21, this means that from September 1 until September 21, the index has increased by 8%.
Among the data provided by the index is the type of investors that have traded. The investor can be an institution or an individual and can be Egyptian, Arab, or foreign.
Market activity varies from day to day. On some days, most of the operations carried out by investors are to sell, and on other days, most operations carried out by investors are to buy.
You will also find an explanation of the daily trading value, which is the total value of buying and selling that took place in the market. If the total sales transactions were EGP 1 million, and the total purchases were EGP 1 million, then the trading value is EGP 2 million.
You will also find in the daily market summary the exchange rate of the dollar against the pound, but what is the exchange rate?
In short, the exchange rate is the relative price of the currency of a particular country against the currency of another country. For example, EGP/USD = EGP 19, meaning that 1 USD is equal to EGP 19.
If the exchange rate of the USD increases, this means that the USD is now worth more in EGP, and if the exchange rate decreases, this means that the USD is still worth less in EGP.
