The Clap
Nike (NYSE:NKE) ended their sponsorship of NBA superstar Kyrie Irving after Irving posted an antisemitic video.
What
The decision to cut ties came as a mutual agreement as confirmed by the player’s agent. Nike suspended its agreement with Irving around a month ago.
Although Irving did not provide a comment about the matter, he posted a video on Twitter captioned “There’s nothing more priceless than being free,” indirectly sending a cryptic message about the severed agreement.
So What
This is not the first time Nike has parted ways with a sporting superstar. In 2021, Nike terminated its deal with Brazillian superstar Neymar Jr.
In addition, Vinicius Jr. is reportedly trying to terminate his contract with Nike, citing unfair treatment.
Now What
Nike was set to release the Kyrie 8 basketball shoes in late November but has announced that the shoe will no longer be released.
