According to Visa, the events official payment partner, (NYSE:V) the fans at the Fifa World Cup are on course to record their highest-ever spending during the tournament.

Data shows that fans have already spent more than the 2014 World Cup and 89% of what was spent during the 2018 World Cup, despite a last-minute ban on the sale of beer.
The tournament is still going to run for another few days, with the final to be played on December 18.

Fifa and Qatar expect to earn a pretty penny from the World Cup. Fifa expects to surpass the $5.4bn in revenues made in the 2018 World Cup, while Qatar expects the tournament to bring in around $17bn.

The USA will be looking forward to hosting the upcoming 2026 World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada, given the boost it brings to the economy.
