The Clap
Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV) operations are back to normal after a crippling snowstorm disrupted flight schedules throughout the entire week.
What
The airline canceled at least 16,000 flights since last Friday, forcing passengers to reschedule at one of the busiest times of the year.
On Friday, the airline recorded only 1% cancellation of its flights, an almost non-existent number compared to 60% cancellations on previous days.
So What
Southwest was hit harder than other airlines, facing challenges in moving crew around and keeping the airline running in addition to the disruptions which impacted all airlines alike.
Now What
CEO Bob Jordan commented on Southwest’s performance during the snowstorm and added that the airline will make more investments to better cope with similar scenarios.
The airline pledged to reimburse travelers for hotel and rental car expenses, something that will surely take its toll on earnings.
