Paramount Pictures (NASDAQ:PARA) was sued for $500mn by Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey, stars of the 1968 film variation of “Romeo & Juliet”, over a nude scene.
What
According to the two stars, director Franco Zeffirelli filmed them nude or partially nude, even though they were initially told there would be no nudity in the film. At the time, they were no more than 16 years of age.
They are suing for sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and fraud.
So What
The actors are looking for punitive damages of $100 million, but may very well be entitled to $500 million, which matched what the film earned since 1968.
Now What
Paramount has not made any comment about the suit. Franco Zeffirelli died in 2019.
