The Clap
Meta (NASDAQ:META) has sued Voyager Labs, a company that uses AI to investigate risk assessment issues, with the claim that Voyager Labs was scraping user data.
What
Scraping user data is the process of creating thousands of fake accounts that scan web pages using automated software and compile information.
This scraping is a violation of Meta’s terms of service and California Law. Meta disabled over 60,000 Voyager Labs-related Facebook and Instagram accounts.
So What
Meta has been cracking down on the scraping of data by other companies in order to improve data privacy, especially following a scandal in 2018 when a political consulting firm unethically collected user data using various methods.
Now What
Meta has asked the court that Voyager Labs give up any profits from the scraped data as an amount to be proven at trial.
