Telecom Egypt (ETEL) has signed an agreement with Greece-based company Grid Telecom to build a subsea cable linking Egypt & Greece.
What
Subsea cables are what connect online computer networks, & now around 90% of data transferred between the east & west passes through Egypt, according to Egypt’s Minister of Communications & Information Technology.
So what
Telecom Egypt’s network now reaches 140 destinations spread over 60 countries.
Now what
The cable will be the shortest pathway for Eastern European countries to transfer data to many more destinations, resulting in better communication services for those areas.
